Why Mathematics in Social Studies?

There are too many social phenomena that cannot be understood in the absence of mathematics and system models.

The build up of public agreement, or disagreement, on a certain issue is similar to the build up of clouds. You need energy to turn water to vapor and to lift it up. Then air activity shapes it in the random shapes you see, at random time and in random position. You feel amazed. Why now, why not before, why here, why not there, why that much, and why not less.

Mathematical models for clouds build up are devised. Extending these models to social studies is difficult but possible. Such models when devised can help to avoid unaffordable and otherwise unpredictable public rise up concerning certain specific issues.
